Dr. Syed Ahmad is Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine. He also serves as Director of the UC Pancreatic Disease Center as well as Associate Director of the UC Cancer Institute and Program Leader in Gastrointestinal Oncology. Dr. Ahmad’s research interest includes both clinical and translational investigations focused on novel treatment approaches to treating pancreas cancer and pancreatitis. He is the surgical chair of SWOG. He is co-Principal Investigator of the current SWOG 1505 study evaluating peri-operative systemic therapy for resectable pancreas cancer. He was also co principal Investigator of the completed Alliance 021101 study investigating neoadjuvant therapy in borderline resectable pancreas cancer and is also a co Investigator on the current Alliance 021501 study evaluating the role of radiation in borderline resectable pancreas cancer. Dr. Ahmad and his collaborators were recently awarded a Pancreas Cancer Action Network (PanCan) grant investigating the role of tissue factors and beta-1 integrins in pancreas cancer. He has authored over 150 manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and 20 textbook chapters. He has also co-edited a textbook entitled, “The Multimodality Management of Borderline Pancreas Cancer”.
